Shima's Sushi - Japanese Restaurant

We took my daughter there last night for her 16th birthday because she’s a huge fan, calling this one of her favorite restaurants. We went in and nobody was at the front entrance so we waited for about five minutes before someone came out and just told us to take a seat. We ordered a couple apps which did come and our drinks came fairly quickly. My daughter ordered Ramen as her main meal, which also came rather quickly, but the rest of us ordered sushi, but our sushi order was pushed off, we believe because of takeout orders. In the end, after an hour and a half in this restaurant, not a single sushi roll had been served to us. They could’ve at least brought out a roll here and there to keep us busy but I guess they planned on bringing all the sushi out at once, which we left before then. We just cashed out with what we had already purchased and didn’t end up getting sushi. It was very sad cause I really wanted sushi. The food we had was good, but the service was horrible, showing clearly they did not have enough staff

I wish I could rate Shima's higher than 5 stars! My 13 year old and his friend were craving sushi so they rode their bikes and went to Shima's on their own. My son absolutely loves sushi and at the young age of 13 has already discovered good and bad sushi. Now I have been to Shima's and can tell you the food is great, but this picky eater loves it so thay says a lot! What I also want to commend is the level of respect the entire staff showed my son and his friend, despite their age. They came in and screamed, "We are customers for life! That place is amazing!" They went on to share how nice their server was and they said they went to compliment the chef who then took the time to talk to them and shared a delicious dessert with them.

I first got introduced to sushi here and in Florida. (Shima does it just, if not better, as they did) back in 2016 till ten year later i still crave and want shimas sushi. We spend our wedding night dinner at this restaurant and also spend birthdays and went special dates here. Even driving an hour to enjoy a good authentic sushi roll. Such kind employees and good service! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Love them!

Shima’s is one of my all-time favorite restaurants in the US, a true hidden gem for the Chicagoland area. The sushi is top notch quality, and the hot menu items are always fresh and delicious.

The variety of the menu is astounding. The freshness of the fish is great;the salmon melts in your mouth. The gyoza is okay, it was a little more crunchy than I cared for. The takoyaki is delicious. The food is made quickly and is super hot. We got a free dessert with a strawberry topping with a brownie. The richness of the brownie was very good and balanced out the tartness of the strawberry. The reason for the 4 out of 5 stars was the service. The service was slower and not at the bar one would expect for a sushi place. The one server was very new, and tonight was swamped so I can't blame them, but there were times we were just sitting for 10 to 20 minutes trying to get the servers attention. I'm sure it'll get better over time; we plan on coming back out in 6 months time to see how it goes. The tea is delicious! The staff is super friendly and the ambiance is lovely- casual and eclectic yet very driven towards one theme.
